"PCGS & NGC Price
Guide" Update
VALUES
HEADING
HIGHER for
Franklins!
Both the PCGS and NGC Price
Guides by necessity acquire much of their pricing information from auction
records. While auction prices realized are a source for pricing information,
the coins offered in auctions are quite often below average in quality for
their grade, i.e. "problem coins".
At the other end of the
quality spectrum are the amazing Premium Quality coins ("PQ" for short) that are
not only high grade, but also are exceptional, premium specimens for that grade!
These "best of the best" understandably trade for premiums above Price Guide
values.
Over the past 30 days we will
be supplying both the PCGS and NGC Price Guide staff important information on
valuations for exceptional cameo proof coins and mint state Franklin half dollars.
As a major market-maker in
Franklin half dollars and post-WWII cameo proof coins, one of our
responsibilities is to help ensure the price guides are as accurate as
possible. We are pleased to report that as promised we have gotten the updates
for mint state Franklin
half dollars to PCGS and NGC. The result to date, for MS 64 FBL and higher
grade Franklin
half dollars in the PCGS Price Guide:
33
PLUSES - values UP
2
MINUSES (for the 1951-S/52-S MS 64 FBL -
those will be up soon - we didn't have sales numbers.)
And PCGS has just begun! EXPECT MORE PLUS SIGNS IN THE
NEAR FUTURE! The NGC Guide will
follow shortly. On the heels of these updates, we are now working on the Price
Guide Values for PROOF Franklin
half dollars.
Warmest
regards, Rick Tomaska
